Last Warriors of the Earth

Written by David Agranoff
Illustrated by Rick Clarke

Last warriors of the Earth is a science fiction action trilogy of graphic novels that can best be described as a environmentally aware matrix with a fully realized 24th century mythology as rich as star wars. Agranoff and Clarke are working hard to create a intense universe that comes together like an out of control genetically engineered monster created by some mad scientists trying to pay loving tribute to influences as diverse as Ed Abbey (the monkey wrench gang), Daniel Quinn (Ishmael), Quentin Tarantino And Phillip K Dick.

Using the dark setting of a post ecological holocaust 24th century dominated by a monolithic corporation ‘Last warriors’ explores the roots of eco-destruction, human exploitation and self destruction while never forgetting to create an engaging and entirely badass speculative epic.
24th century earth - One corporation remains more powerful than the last of the puppet governments that had eroded away. Ruling over the earth slave state which has become a production center for the ruling class that live in off world colonies. To keep the workers in line personal freedoms are something the people of earth have never known, weapons and the fighting arts are illegal.

Our hero is Shen – a Chinese medical doctor who is running a underground school for the fighting arts. A deeply spiritual family man Shen is committed to keeping the martial way alive despite the danger of exposure. His life comes crashing down when a student named Akrio who he considered a brother exposes his operation for ticket off earth.

After watching his family murdered and his school burn to the ground Shen escapes only with his family sword and a overwhelming desire to fulfill his wife’s dying wish for vengeance. Shen embarks on a epic journey across the wastelands of earth hunting the man who betrayed him.
On this journey Shen is confronted by the gravity of his planet’s destruction. It is when he arrives in the remains of America that he discovers a plot to undermine the human race, a plot older than history itself. Organized by a species of body snatching hyper capitalist named The RUTAK they mean to re-format the earth’s environment over 10,000 years to be habitable for a customer species planning colonization.

Over the trilogy the story will explore political and environmental issues while playfully indulging in some of our favorite Sci-Fi themes from giant space battles, Time travel, alien cultures, all peppered with influences ranging from spaghetti westerns to Shaw brothers Kung fu films.
Ambitious and epic ‘Last warriors’ is a tale in need a publisher ready to support its rich vision.

I have been reading and writing science fiction since I had to dictate it to my mother. I’ve been into Star Wars since diapers and have been reading classic speculative fiction since middle school – authors such as Phillip K. Dick, Robert Heinlein and Ursula K. Leguin. In my eighth-grade year I discovered Clive Barker, who is still a major influence on my horror fiction material. A couple of contemporary writers who’ve been influences for Last Warriors are China Mieville and John Shirley.
However, Last Warriors of the Earth is most influenced by films and my own life experiences. As a self-proclaimed film geek with a broad knowledge of sci-fi, horror and martial arts films, I am excited about blending these genres in a fresh way.

As for the political message, I am very influenced by Daniel Quinn, author of the bestselling eco-awareness novels Ishmael and Story of B. Last Warriors is also influenced by the work of Howard Zinn, Kirkpatrick Sale, and French psychiatrist and revolutionary writer Frantz Fannon (Wretched of the Earth).

The success of political science fiction such as The Matrix, Star Wars, and V for Vendetta, to name a few, shows that readers crave more than just entertainment. That being said, I am working hard to make sure that the story of Last Warriors of the Earth doesn’t suffer at the hands of the message.

While we know that most of the work that goes into promoting a graphic novel will be done by the publisher, we believe that as a creative team we have a responsibility to promote our work. In this section we will suggest some ideas for promotion - some that will fall under the wings of the publisher, but several we would handle on our own.

We have envisioned a six-point plan of attack, by which science fiction and comic fans will be reached while simultaneously exposing our work to a whole new market - environmentalists.

1. A Last Warriors of the Earth-specific website maintained by the author and artist:
The site could feature art, tie-in short stories, character and monster histories, author and artist info, and most importantly, forums.

The forums would offer opportunities to discuss the ideas in the novel and help individuals lead a more sustainable life.

2. Author/Artist organized signings and events, including readings of tie-in short stories.

3. Author David Agranoff would continue to market the screenplay to production companies in California and Vancouver. He is currently shopping several horror screenplays including the award-nominated Hunting the Moon Tribe.

4. A series of promotional posters and post cards featuring Last Warriors art.

5. Author-organized street team consisting of a network of fellow activists and activist-artists can work to promote our material nationally.

6. Website will play a vital role by creating an on-line community similar to the “Friends of Ishmael” network that author Daniel Quinn created to help promote his eco-awareness novels.

This will serve to promote the books – and to organize events around the country and overseas.
